AI & I by Every

RIP Boo。」

Willie 回忆起源:最早叫 Claudius(更早还有 Clawbot、Moltbot 的混乱命名史);撰稿人 Ash 安利后 Brandon 第一个上手(RIP Osha)。

【Plus One

所以:你需要公司 agent(Every Agent),它还得跟人手一个的 dot/dot 类好好协作。

Willie(历经创业公司与大厂的工程管理者):「讽刺的是,工程管理是我做过的工作里和今天最像的一个。」 发布期的营销对话、公司谣言 mills(「听说我们在做 X?——不,我们不该做 X,那我该找谁说?」)——field marshal 级视野对小组队也极有用。

A brand-new AI & I by Every (published 2026-10-07, new to this digest): Dan Shipper and Willie Williams — the head of platform who led the engineering — tell the full story of why Every traded personal agents for one company agent. Cold open: week two of OpenAI's Dots — real use cases at Every (school-email triage, Slack access requests, doing launch-video work by phone, model-testing results posted to Slack while the weekend stays calm); the permission structure is 'completely a mystery… extremely annoying'; and the hot take: 'in a year this is the default way you interact with all your AIs… my dot is named Boo, he's super cute, but Boo will probably be dead' — cute characters get thrown away the moment something performs better. The history: from the original OpenClaw phase (Claudius/Clawbot lineage, the January Think Week in Panama, a model drop that made every claw suddenly way better, 'so many bots in our Slack, absolute chaos'), to Plus One (the one-click claw maker, RIP) — Shipper wanted agent-per-person, Williams wanted one-agent-for-everyone, and 'in retrospect I was wrong': OpenClaw was too fast-moving and vibe-coded to build a platform on, and through that process all the personal claws died (RIP R2C2 — the Mac mini got unplugged and nobody restarted it). The takeaways: seeing other people use AI transforms; tinkerers love customization, operators want something that just works; 'instead of everyone investing in their own agents, why not take all that energy and put it into one agent the whole company benefits from.' The bet: the professional/personal split solidifies — one agent per company ('it needs to have been there a year to really get up to speed… I don't see us repeating the chaos of every worker gets their coworker'), plus personal agents that personalize (Muse/Instinct/Dots). Engineering management in the age of AI: 'ironically the most similar job' — leverage from seeing the field (Tend feeds consolidating Slack/email/customer reports, rumor-mill triage, field-marshal view), manager still a force multiplier on people ('my token usage falls off a cliff — there's no billion-token move; we still need to sit down and have a conversation'), dashboards watched by an agent every five minutes for anomalies, an agent as the always-on first on-call. The future org: company agent → team agents (Claudia, Bill) → personal dots as portals to your codex — 'the shadow org chart, but top-down: make something great at the top, split it out when you need specialization.' Willie's personal model: role-specific coaches in GrokBot (a swim coach, a therapist; transactional stuff stays a Codex thread) and why 'Willie's swimming coach is reaching out' beats remembering threads. Plus: the feed-based world (everyone can have their own feed now; frontier alerts in the Every Agent; Jev + Decisions API making proactivity cheap) and X as an explore/exploit problem — 'my cognitive defenses have to be up… it would be great if an agent could take the brunt and I get the nuggets.'

Dan Shipper: The whole permission structure of Dots is, like, completely a mystery to me and is extremely annoying… But I would expect in a year, this is the default way that you're interacting with all your AIs… Mine is named Boo. He's super cute. But my experience using OpenClaws and other named agents like this is that as soon as something better comes along, you throw away the cute little character you develop.

Willie Williams: It was sort of like, we want, instead of everyone investing in their own agents and making them better day to day over time, it's like, why don't we take all that energy and put it into one agent that the whole company benefits from?

Dan Shipper: I remember my claw was named R2C2 and I had this attached relationship to R2C2 and then at some point someone knocked the Mac mini power off and then it disappeared but I didn't restart it.

Willie Williams: I do think it's a one agent per company or org structure… It needs to have been there a year to really get up to speed. And I really don't see us or the industry repeating the chaos of every worker gets their coworker and we're all gonna double our company size.

Willie Williams: Ironically, engineering management feels the most similar out of any of the jobs that I've done before in the present day… It's still very much a people job and you want it to be a people job.

Dan Shipper: I think we will probably get to the shadow org chart at some point… it's more likely to be: you make something really great that's at the top and then you kind of split that out every once in a while when you need the specialization.
